Product: Artifact

Products performance characteristics

The Artifact is an item created by a manufacturer whereby that item is no longer for sale by the manufacturer, or the manufacturer has discontinued production of that particular item.  The Artifact is updated with new value propositions so that the item could be used again in a modern context.

Products aesthetic characteristics

The Artifact’s physical condition is new or second hand.  If the Artifact is new, the items Manufacturer’s Retail Purpose is preserved.  For “new” it is rated 10 of 10 and the value of the product is higher.  It means that the item has not been opened. If the item is second hand, this means that the item is in good condition, and it has been repurposed with added value.  Added value means that the item’s Manufacturer’s Retail Purpose has been altered.  This could include the addition of accessories or a new color.  Second hand items are rated below 10 of 10.  For example, an Artifact with minor scratches and scuffs can be rated at 6/10.  This means that the value of that item is less the value of the same item that is new, rated 10 of 10.

An example below:

The Olympus m:robe is an MP3 player designed in in the 2000’s.  This item was bought new at the price of $150.00.  The item was opened by the purchaser and as a result it became a second hand good.  The product is then bundled with other accessories from another period of time.  The accessories that it was bundled with are:  B&O Form 2I headphones, and a collectable Tom Brady Card issued by TOPPS.  Both the bundled items become second hand goods as they are opened and bundled with the MP3 player.  Every item within the bundle becomes an Artifact with an assigned value in dollars.  The bundle also has a combined value expressed as an Artifact Value.  Generally, the appeal of Artifacts are the reassigned value propositions, in this instance nostalgia and lifestyle.  Nostalgia because the Card represents the products identity and lifestyle because it are making use of the discontinued item (recycling).

Installation, configuration or fit of product

The Artifacts are purchased from a distributer in the best condition possible.  The products are placed together in a bundle.  The product/s are used for their intended purpose but also for the purpose of the added value (the bundle).

Packaging characteristics (if applicable)

The Artifact is presented via a picture placement.  The item is displayed with its new value proposition within the photograph.  There is also a description of the item/ (s) along with a value in dollars.  The above are further published on a publication.
